Under Construction

LINGUA LATINA

Salvē, viātor/trix. This is a place to keep what interests me about the Latin language, gather resources, store interesting words, write about my thoughts, and go insane in general about a language now mainly spoken by nerds, Catholics, and Catholic nerds.

Latin is often said to have "free" word order. Being a highly inflected language, the forms of the words themselves provide more contextual meaning than their positions in sentences. Latin tends to follow certain patterns that become intuitive with time, but the freedom to rearrange words for different shades of meaning gives the language an addictive flexibility. It's also fantastic for meaningful, beautiful brevity, its ability to compress information in a small space while retaining a rhythm and melodicism.
